Mike McCarthy's new offensive coordinator is an old friend from Green Bay.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are finalizing a deal to hire Brian Angelichio as their OC, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday, per sources.
Angelichio, 53, spent the last four seasons as the Minnesota Vikings' passing game coordinator and tight ends coach. He previously coached under McCarthy, now the Steelers' head coach, and with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay from 2016-18, serving as a tight ends coach. Angelichio will be familiar with the environs in Pittsburgh, as well, as he served as TEs coach for the collegiate Panthers from 2006-2010 under Dave Wannstedt.
Additionally, Pittsburgh is hiring former Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. as assistant head coach/secondary coach, Pelissero reported.
With Angelichio and Whitt, McCarthy's first coaching staff is coming into shape. The former Packers and Cowboys boss already hired veteran coordinators Patrick Graham and Danny Crossman to coach the defense and special teams, respectively. While Whitt was a DC in Washington for the last two years, Angelichio will be a first-time coordinator in 2026.
Whether Angelichio will have Rodgers at his disposal remains to be seen. The 42-year-old quarterback has not intimated since McCarthy's hire whether he will return to Pittsburgh for a second season in Black and Yellow.
Another familiar face in Angelichio could entice Rodgers, who would have the likes of Jaylen Warren, DK Metcalf, Pat Freiermuth and Jonnu Smith back in the saddle. Team MVP Kenneth Gainwell is a free agent-to-be.
Under former OC Arthur Smith, the Steelers ranked 15th in scoring offense and 25th in total offense in 2025.
Angelichio will hope to improve those numbers in 2026, regardless of who is under center.
