NFL Green Sustainability

Event Info

NFL Green Sustainability

Sustainability is a core focus for the NFL, and the league is committed to reducing the environmental impact at each of our events. The NFL strives to not only make each Super Bowl more sustainable than the last but to also leave a lasting "green legacy" in the host's community.

What you can do:

There are simple steps you can take to help make Super Bowl LX more sustainable!

Help us reduce waste

  • Ensure recyclables are empty, clean, and dry – no foods or liquids remaining.
  • Keep plastic bags and wraps out of recycling.
  • Talk with our on-site sustainability staff if you have any questions or want to learn more.

Travel sustainably

  • Walk when you can – not only is walking zero emission, it's also a great way to see all the festivities and may be the fastest way to get around during peak times.
  • Utilize public transport – avoid the congestion by taking the train or bus to your destination. Many local agencies will offer increased service and staff to help make your trip easy and convenient, including VTA, BART, Caltrain, and SFMTA.
  • Consider an EV rideshare – if available on your trip, go with a smooth, quiet, zero-emission EV ride, which is often about the same price as a standard ride.

What the NFL is doing:

In collaboration with the Bay Area Host Committee, the NFL is:

Donating materials and food: The NFL helps reusable materials find a second life after Super Bowl LX.

  • 30+ Donation Organizations: Over 30 local organizations, from food banks to schools, will repurpose Super Bowl items.
  • Tons of donations: Last year's Super Bowl donations totaled over $800,000 in food and materials, with expectations to match or exceed that this year, including thousands of pounds of food and building materials.

Improving recycling: The NFL is ramping up recycling efforts, both for fans and behind the scenes.

  • Extra bins: 200 additional recycling bins and sustainability staff to assist fans are located throughout Levi's Stadium and the surrounding campus.
  • Added sorting behind the scenes: Behind the scenes, the NFL is sorting through select waste bins, to minimize contamination and maximize recycling.

Looking beyond Super Bowl LX: The NFL aims to leave a lasting "green legacy" in the Bay Area.

  • Community-focused donations: Post-event donations of materials and food are being prioritized to community organizations that are local and can offer large communal benefit.
  • Improved recycling protocols at Levi's Stadium: The NFL and stadium staff are piloting additional sorting protocols of waste bins at Super Bowl, which can be used for future events.
